Overview
Queensland is Australia's sunshine state. With the subtropical and
tropical climate along its coast, it has a powerful attraction come autumn and winter to the residents
of the country's southern, and colder, states. The coast is developed to meet this
need, including many of the hundreds of small coastal islands that dot Queensland.
Many of these make for perfect holiday resorts.

The state's Gold Coast, which begins an hour's drive south of the capital of
Brisbane, is home to white beaches and highly developed resorts. It has
theme parks, shopping, great dining, and anything else a rambunctious traveller could want.
To the north is a different kind of vacation. The Sunshine Coast, north of Brisbane,
offers the best in water sports and some of the finest resorts. But it's close
proximately to the wilder side of Queensland - mountain villages, bird estuaries,
and rainforests - make the Sunshine Coast the choice for eco-tourists and
adventurers.
Between the two coasts is Brisbane. It is one of the fastest growing cities in the
whole country, which tells you something about the economic opportunities
mushrooming in Queensland.
Perhaps one of the most famous parts of Queensland isn't even on land. It's the
Great Barrier Reef, an undersea wilderness that winds from Bundaberg to the
northern tip of Cape York for more than three thousand kilometres. It is a mecca
for snorkelling, scuba diving, glass bottom boat cruising, and anything and
everything that has to do with water.
Cairns, the other major city in the state, is one of main spots to explore the reef.
Surrounded by rolling green hills and the tropical wilderness beyond, this northern
outpost offers it's own mix of culture and calm that make it worthy of a visit on
its own.
